Who we are
"Part 77 Inspection," "we," and "us" means the maker of the Part 77 Inspection app and the operator of part77inspection.com. Questions, requests, and complaints all go to jeff.spearr@gmail.com — a person reads them.
This policy covers two things: this website, and the Part 77 Inspection iOS app, including beta builds delivered through Apple's TestFlight.
The website
The site is static and deliberately quiet. We run no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking cookies.
- Pilot request form. If you submit the form, we receive what you typed — name, work email, organization, role, coverage area, and your message. We use it to reply and to run the pilot program. It's stored with our hosting provider (Netlify) and is never sold or used for advertising.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard web server logs (IP address, pages requested, timestamps) for security and operations.
- Fonts. Pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends a standard request (including your IP address) to Google's font servers.
The app
Your account. Accounts are created by your organization's administrator (or by us, at your organization's request) — there is no public sign-up. An account is your name, work email, and the organization you belong to. Your email is your username.
Inspection records. The point of the app. When you record an obstruction check, the app captures coordinates, surface results, heights, photos, notes, and timestamps. These records are created by you, on behalf of your organization — they belong to your organization, and your organization's administrators control who in the organization can see them.
Location. The app uses your device's precise position while you're using it, for exactly one purpose: computing where you (or the object you're sighting) stand relative to Part 77 imaginary surfaces, and recording surveyed coordinates into inspection records. We don't collect your location in the background, and we don't use it for advertising or profiling. You can decline the permission and enter coordinates manually.
Photos and camera. Camera access is used for sighting obstructions and attaching photos to inspection records. Photos you capture become part of the record.
Sync. The app works offline; records sync over encrypted connections to our backend (hosted in the United States) when you're back in coverage.
Diagnostics. Crash reports and basic usage statistics may reach us through Apple's TestFlight and App Store systems, governed by your choices in iOS and Apple's terms.
Who can see your data
- Your organization. Administrators and members of your organization see the accounts and inspection records that belong to it, according to the roles your organization sets.
- Service providers. We use a small set of vendors to run the product — hosting and database, file storage, transactional email, and payment processing for organization invoices (billing contact details only; we never see full card numbers). They process data for us, under their contracts, and for no other purpose.
- Legal requirements. We disclose data if the law requires it, and we'll tell the affected organization unless we're legally barred from doing so.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There are no ads anywhere in the product.
A note for government users
If your organization is a public agency, inspection records you create with the app may be public records under your state's public-records laws. Those obligations belong to your agency, and the records belong to your agency — we support that by keeping your agency's data exportable and under its control.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
Account and inspection data is kept for as long as your organization's subscription (or pilot) is active, plus a short wind-down period so nothing is lost by accident. Organizations can export their records and can ask us to delete their data at any time.
Individuals can request deletion of their account from the app's settings ("Request account deletion") or by emailing jeff.spearr@gmail.com. Because accounts are provisioned by your organization, we confirm with your organization's administrator, then delete within 30 days. Inspection records you created for your organization remain your organization's property, with your name removed on request where the law allows.
Website form submissions are kept only as long as they're useful for running the pilot program; ask and we'll delete yours.
Security
Data moves over TLS-encrypted connections and is encrypted at rest by our infrastructure providers. Access is org-scoped — the database itself enforces that one organization's users cannot read another organization's records — and administrative access is limited to what's needed to operate the service.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for corrections, or ask for deletion — email jeff.spearr@gmail.com. You can revoke location or camera permission anytime in iOS Settings (the app falls back to manual entry). California residents: we don't sell or "share" personal information as the CCPA defines those terms, so there's nothing to opt out of — the access, correction, and deletion rights above are yours regardless.
Children
The product is a professional inspection tool for working adults. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with an updated effective date. Material changes get called out to organization administrators directly.
